The mother of an Oklahoma teen is seeking answers after what happened to her daughter on a field trip, where sex education was taught to students. Miracle Foster gave her permission for her 16-year-old daughter to attend the lecture at Langston Hughes Academy, but she did not consent to what was put inside the young girl, only discovering it later to her horror.
Foster believes her parental rights were violated when her daughter went to a Youth Services of Tulsa seminar and came home with a three-year Norplant birth control implant in her arm. She was under the impression that the girl would be leaving campus to learn more about reproductive health, not to make any key decisions about her medical care without the advice of a parent.
This monumental breach of parental rights is actually allowed under Title X of federal guidelines, which permits teens as young as 12 years old to receive various forms of contraception without their parents ever knowing.
Rodney L. Clark, the principal at the school Foster’s daughter attends, said in a statement Wednesday:
“This was not a field trip. Youth Services of Tulsa does an annual in-service on Sex Education. They offer students an opportunity to contact them on their own for more information. The parent gave her child permission to leave the school. Under Title X once young people are at the clinic and are of reproductive age, they can make decisions on their own without parental consent. As you can understand this situation involves a minor and we do not release information about students. Nevertheless, the student was well within their rights of Title X which is a federal guideline that provides reduced cost family planning services to persons of all reproductive age.”
Though what happened to Foster’s daughter was technically “legal,” the idea of teenagers undergoing “family planning services” without the involvement of their parents is ludicrous. Allowing children to receive birth control and make other key decisions about their medical care is a way for the state to strip authority from parents like Foster, who would have liked the opportunity to discuss it with her daughter before she was implanted.
It is becoming increasingly risky to send your children off to school these days as liberal educators become more and more progressive while moving to take as much authority away from parents as possible. If they’re not telling your kids to hate the president, they’re implanting them with birth control hormones without your consent. It’s a scary world we live in.
